Band: Jaurim

jaurim

Jaurim is one of the reasons I fell in love with Korean pop. They’re one of those bands that doesn’t conform to what people would like to see and yet their formula could actually work to attract their listeners to their music. No one could resist admiring Kim Yoon-Ah singing on stage. Her powerful voice could actually bring out the soul of the songs, and she could control them well. That’s one thing I don’t like about powerful belters, they just belt out songs and think that’s impressive does nothing but hurt ears. You know how those little girls in talent contests sing about love tragedies, but never know what those songs actually mean, they suck.061127_jaworim

Jaurim can switch between song styles and still get their fans and new listeners to tune in to them. Just to catch that magic. Too bad, there’s not a dedicated site to translate all their songs. Or I just can’t find any. Well, who needs translations to their songs when you can just watch them while they play and get captivated.

The first song I knew of them is the Ha Ha Ha Song which gives encouragement to any sad soul. But my all time favorite is their cover of Gloomy Sunday<agloomy a Sunday. This song is what made me interested in finding more songs of them. This must be the most beautiful version the suicide song.

Listen to Jaurim’s version of Gloomy Sunday:

Jaurim was also featured in Arirang networks’ I AM series

Yui – Goodbye Days MV

23 11 2007

200px-YUI_Good-bye_Days

I enjoy playing this song on guitar. The music video is a tearjerker especially if you happen to watch the movie. I actually saw the live action drama first thinking it was Yui who starred in it but then, it was Erika Sawajiri. Erika has more class, so she doesn’t look sick in the drama. It’s still nice though. I think I need to see the movie again coz I am not convinced with Yui’s acting.

YUI ~Goodbye Days~

Dakara ima ai ni yuku
So kimetanda
Poketto no kono kyoku wo
kimi ni kikasetai

Sotto boryu-mu wo agete
Tashikamete mitayo

Oh Good-bye Days
Ima, kawaru ki ga suru
Kinou made ni
So Long
Kakko yokunai
Yasashisa ga soba ni aru kara
La la la la la with you

Katahou no earphone wo
Kimi ni watasu
Yukkuri to nagare komu
Kono shunkan

Umaku aisete imasu ka?
Tama ni mayou kedo

Oh Good-bye Days
Ima, kawari hajimeta
Mune no oku
All Right
Kakko yokunai
Yasashisa ga soba ni aru kara
La la la la la with you

Dekireba kanashii
Omoi nante shitaku nai
Demo yattekuru deshou, oh
Sono toki egao de
"Yeah, Hello My Friend" nante sa
Ieta nara ii noni

Onaji uta wo
Kuchizusamu toki
Soba ni ite I Wish
Kakko yokunai
Yasashisa ni aeta yokatta yo
La la la la good-bye days

That’s why now
I’m coming to meet u
That’s what I’ve decided

The song in my pocket
I want to let you listen to it
Raising the soft volume
To make sure it’s just right

Oh Goodbye days, now
I know things are going to change
Until Yesterday, so long
Unstylishly but staying gently
By my side, that’s why
la la la la la with u

Passing you
One side of my earphone
Slowly, in that moment
When the music starts flowing
Do I have the ability to love u properly?
But sometimes I’ll get lost

Oh, Goodbye days, now
It’s beginning to change
But deep inside my heart it’s alright
Unstylishly but staying gently
By my side, that’s why
la la la la la with u

If I could
I dont want to think
About the sadness
But you’ll definitely turn up, wont u?
At this time, with a smile

Yeah, hello my friend,
How shall I say this?
It’s fine even if i say it out loud?

When I’m humming the same song
I wish I was by your side
I’m glad I met your
Uncool brand of kindness
la la la la la Goodbye Days

News links: Korea and their Culture

23 11 2007

This post has no intention to demean Korea and their culture. I just found this on news archives of English newspapers of South Korea. This also doesn’t mean to give them any bad rep. Everybody’s got their own shares of problems.

Here are few interesting news and info on Korea.

The Bad Manners of Korean Audiences

Korean audiences lack manners, especially in classical concerts,
museums and golf courses. In the case of classical concerts, many
Korean audiences commit the faux pas of applauding between movements.
“I often find it difficult to concentrate on my performance because of
audiences clap between movements or leave their seats,” said Dennis Kim
(32) of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. “Such scene are rare in
Europe and the U.S.”

Foreigners: “No Korean spouse for me, thanks”

7 in 10 foreign students and workers from China, Indonesia, Malaysia,
and Saudi Arabia answered “no” in a survey which asked them if they
have thought about marrying a Korean and staying in Korea.

Teen Commits Suicide After Illegal Book Download

A high school student who downloaded a novel for free from the internet
committed suicide after being arrested for violating copyright law and
being scolded by her father.

10% of People Injured in Gwangju Massacre Have Committed Suicide

Among the 376 dead of those injured on May 18, 39, or 10.4%, committed suicide – the leading cause of death, the study found.

10 Unique Korean Customs & Practices (1950-2007)

Jeonse system: Instead of paying a monthly rent, the tenant hands over a large sum of deposit money, sometimes as much as 50 percent of the housing price, to the homeowner. The owner puts the money into a bank account to earn interest, invest in stocks, or do whatever he or she wants. The tenants get back the full amount of the deposited money when the contract ends.
