KeyHoleTV: How to Try to watch Arashi TV Shows in Real-Time

22 03 2008

I snatched this article from Soompi and practically arranged it for myself to remember. Really, I just copy-paste-edit this for myself. Read the complete post here. Really, this must be a great way to watch Arashi shows real time. IF ONLY I HAVE A DECENT CONNECTION. The post is new so the show schedule must still apply. Though take note that Japan time is 1 hour ahead of Philippine Time. So 9AM in Tokyo is 8AM in Manila.

KeyHoleTV is a Windows P2PTV application that broadcasts all the regular Japanese TV channels (with the exception of NHK) and the occasional American channel, webcam, or whatever random thing that might pop up. With this program, you can stream Japanese channels in real-time. The quality of the audio and video isn’t that great, unfortunately. The sound can be downright terrible, especially when music performances or loud audiences are involved. But overall, it’s decent enough to hold us over until the show is uploaded or a better-quality alternative comes along.

To install, go to http://www.v2p.jp/video/Viewer/ and download the latest installation file (currently version 3.04). It’s updated somewhat often, so you may want to check back now and again.

The program is simple and pretty self-explanatory. To watch a channel, double-click the channel you want under the Program tab and you are set.

The viewing screen may be resized by double-clicking on the screen, which opens up a separate window.

Channel Listing: (frequently updated – current as of March 1, 2008)

The channel names don’t appear to be the actual names of the channels, so it took me a while to figure out which one was which since I can’t read anything other than English fluently. :roll If anyone understands what they say, I’d be interested in knowing what they mean. Anyway, here’s a little guide for identifying the channels — find the channel by using the names/labels.

= Fuji TV
= NTV
= TBS
TVAsahi-080301 = TV Asahi
= TV Tokyo
= Tokyo MX

Program Schedules:

TV Guide: http://www.tvguide.or.jp/
Yahoo!Japan TV: http://tv.yahoo.co.jp/
goo: http://tv.goo.ne.jp/index.html
Infoseek: http://tv.www.infoseek.co.jp/
MSN: http://tv.msn.co.jp/
ONTV JAPAN: http://www.ontvjapan.com/

Edit Feb. 12
Temporary/Unstable Channels:

= AT-X
= TV Setouchi (TSC)
= SBS TV
= ABC TV (Asahi Broadcasting Corporation)
= ytv (Feb. 10)
= ytv (Feb. 11)

As noted before, a lot of random TV channels/webcams/radio stations pop up from time to time, but most do not stay very long. The above temp channels are local stations from various cities. In some cases, the same KHTV channel may broadcast different stations — for example, showing TSC at one point and then shifting to TBS later. It’s a pain to keep up with all of them, so for this reason the standard channels will have the update priority.

Troubleshooting:
-Login timed out. Check your network: Just click on OFFLINE button or close the program and start it again or restart your comp.
-Warped picture?: Try setting the monitor display to 32-bit color. Right-click on the Desktop -> Properties -> Settings
-Square boxes instead of japanese fonts?: You may need need to install the East Asian Languages Pack on your system. To check if it’s installed, go to Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options -> Languages tab and see if the “Install files for East Asian languages” box is checked. If not, click it and it’ll prompt you for the Windows installation CD. Better instructions can be found at http://www.coscom.co.jp/help3/jpfont/jpfont.html (Step 1).
-Sound not working?: Make sure you’ve downloaded the recent version at KeyHoleTV

TV Schedule (provided by Sanae from Arashian. [copied without her permission])
To finish off, here’s a list of the TV shows and dramas where the Johnny’s usually host or appear. Times are all in Japanese Standard Time so convert accordingly, okay? Any mistakes you spot, anything you need to add, please let us know!

hi kaHs2aiBa, yes, I’ve discovered TVUPlayer too before, was about to post a review, but unfortunately, it doesn’t work well with me. But the good news is, it works for a lot of people. So, yes, I do recommend it for everyone to try if it works better with them. Coz KeyHoleTV could somehow suck sometimes.

Oh and about TVU.. hmm it works for me well.. I always hear complaints about its image tho ne? But its ok, it doesnt have to be full screen mode so I can watch the boys’ tv shows, ne? =]

hi there kaHs2aiBa, the ones posted at my sidebar are just the regular shows they have, it doesn’t have the guestings they do for promotions like Utaban or Music Station appearances, so please feel free to check the link for the complete list of their schedule, that’s really helpful!

I’m happy that TVU works for you, you’re so lucky! I still check on sometimes with KeyHole esp during Arashi no Shukudaikun or when I have time to watch, and yes, to see them at the same time it’s shown in Japan just feels different and more thrilling!

Ah, you live in Hawaii? A very important place for Arashi! Wow. Yeah, I think it will be hard for you to catch them real-time that way. Well, maybe you can use it to watch other shows like afternoon dramas?
