The Korean Plastic Surgery Collection

Please wait for the slideshow to load…

This is nothing new. I think I became aware of this since two years ago and I don’t find anything else as new. Unfortunately, now, whenever I see new faces on the Korean Wave scene, especially those with obviously big, and cute eyes, I would ask myself of what surgeries they possibly had. But sometimes, it doesn’t matter anymore. That’s how things go in Korea eh. I don’t think I would care about cosmetic surgery unless I want a surgery for myself.

(Come to think of it, the typical Korean look in dramas and movies is something like: big, cute eyes, mid-length wavy hair with bangs, and a fair and mark-free skin and face. Hmm.)

I don’t believe all of them involved surgery. Some pictures just show childhood photos, pictures without makeup or photos taken when they were just living like the rest of us, non-celebrities.

You can view the original collection with who they at: (broken link) http://monkorean.skr.jp/monkorean/index.html

I’m open-minded now about the good and bad things in the Korean Wave phenomenon. This post is not to judge or criticize celebrities involved but just to give info to those curious minds out there. I find it appalling that Korean netizens are heavily criticizing “fixed” celebrities that sometimes lead to celebrity suicides. We can’t really blame them, they chose to be entertainers and they feel it’s their job to look good on everyone’s eyes. Also, the competition to make it big is pretty tight. It’s the survival of the fittest for them. Now, do you really get Korean culture?

And mind you *with my eye brows raised* I find it sick when people esp. from our country knew of someone beautiful, and the first impression is: “Why don’t you try show business?” I think that’s the dumbest remark! Isn’t it better to have “ugly people who turned to surgery and can act” rather than “talentless people who just look pretty”? (which I don’t necessarily mean that all surgery-gone celebrities can surely act)

I think I first noticed how Oriental artists looked different when I watched Meteor Garden and F4 in 2003. I thought and wondered how they were Chinese, but 3 out of 4 of those guys got big eyes.

  1. i noticed women have eyelids now, that somehow diminished their chinky eyes

  2. yes, that’s the typical eye feature in oriental Asia but they get surgery to give a livelier look.

  3. wow!!!!
    unbelieveable!!!!
    so, their aren’t that preety n handsome….
    how dissapointed i’m…

  4. hi asrie_Za! i am from the Philippines. yes, we could be friends. thanks for commenting on my singing “Why”.

Well, I think it’s just common for Koreans to make their efforts to look good or better. That’s just how I see it. It’s not a very bad thing.

  5. everyone has the right to be beautiful, not just the naturally born beautiful…which i realize now more and more, is rare than it seems.

  6. This is fun!!
I had a great time watching it!!
    This is so hilarious!!

  7. jet, I looked at the Internet and found that most people claimed Nino had surgery on his eyes.

  8. Oh really???
Can you give me links to those sites?

  9. take a look at this thread:

    http://asianfanatics.net/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t309970.html

there’s other JE talents there too.

i don’t believe Nino had one since he’s too busy to get one. And sometimes I could still catch his eyes looks like how it was when he was younger. you know, without a double eyelid. i don’t know about kamenashi kazuya though.

  10. maybe??
    I’ll look at it!
    Thanks for the link!!!

  11. Ohno was there too..
though nothing really seemed to have changed..
it’s just maybe because of growing up..

  12. i believe Ohno’s natural. there’s not much change on him.

but really, nino and kame’s eyes looks different when they were young. but I think I saw a Yamada Taro photo of Nino where his eyes look kinda similar to his eyes before so I don’t think he’s had one. Even Sho’s eyes now look a lot different from before.

  13. I agree..
    Kame really looked different..
    Jin’s nose too..

  14. I don’t know about the girls, I’m not interested on them anyway, but I thought Taki got me on the his first picture there. But maybe you know, it’s just the camera angles.

  15. yup.. who knows..
anyway.. it’s the present that matters..

  16. actually when you compare your pictures from before and your present self, there would always be a change or difference, that’s what growth and development means. i don’t think all of the pictures show changes from plastic surgery.yeah its true that korea has this medical tourism where people go there to have surgery which includes plastic surgery…but looking at some pictures, there are some which kinda shows artist trying to make themselves look good considering they’re celebs so people would really say that she had plastic surgery which might not always be true because of make-up and the power of good imaging and printing…i just want to point it out. However, i still agree that many of the celebs’ shown in those pics did have surgery because the change is indeed clear…even a 2 year old would know. i heard that most koreans as a graduation gift have their eyelids done.some looked really HORRIBLE before but some still looked cute and pretty.at some point, its kinda cheating us but they’ve got the talent. let’s face it, its better to get the whole package, don’t you think so?

  17. hi Rain, I don’t own/made any of the pictures, I just found them on a site and compiled on a slideshow, so I never compared them. this post is just for people curious about the “trend” and not to judge who did some surgery or not. I might compare but they’re just too many to do that. it’s up to the people looking at these pictures to think what they want to. but it’s better not be harsh on comments ;)

  18. my sister has really slitty eyes as a child, if you look at her baby pic, her eyes are slitty – only when she smiles! but looking at her eyes now, u wouldnt believe how massive it opens out! so these kids could be the same! .. unless all the pic look the same, then yh u could assume they had surgery!

  19. susie, I believe too that not all of them had surgery, some would just naturally correct as they grow old or they just become not as obvious as before like their eyes or nose. Or makeup. There can be ways not just surgery.

  20. I don’t really care if people opt to go under the knife. If they’re going to gain more self-confidence, then fine by me.

Btw, I’ve already linked your blog to mine:

  21. Elliot, we’re ‘linked’ now :)

    감삼니다!

  22. Yes, its entertainment and the bodies and faces of theatre artists are important assests, however fake and sick it may seem. But its not just korea, its global. Look at Iran, how many women are getting nose jobs to european standards. ANd take a look at HOLLYWOOD. Hally Berry’s rhinoplasty, marlyn monroe’s plastic surgery, angelina jolie, jessica simpson (who looked so much better and feminine without the surgery), and on and on.
Obsiously plastic surgery will make you prettier, but then everyone starts lookin kinda the same and its just not really your genetic make-up, obviously,

  23. pls tell me where is the best place to go to the surgery in korea? thanks

  24. omg some if them did get surgery.like as in major difference.
    Most are just minor changes.
And some they just grew up…
and look at the asian surgery raitngs or w.e
    KOrea is theless ,
Its just theyre surgeries ar emore exposed and and yeah.

  25. Sorry dont really wonna complain about the surgerys, its true that almost all done one and such, but in the picture with the actress Jeon Ji Hyun before and after was made a mistake because one of the afters was from an other korean acteress:Kim Byeol.Just wanted to tell, and Kim Tae Hee is really natural(one picture is not enought)but whatever, its still true that much of them undergone one.

  26. SO basically all our Korean singers/actors/actress are all plastic. *nods* I should have known! lol

    • I don’t think they all underwent plastic. just like every race, there were some born pretty, some not. and some improved with time or did basic tricks. it’s just an interesting slideshow :)

  27. i just wish people can just look beyond good looks and not be so judgemental – what about inner beauty ? Are we all about package and nothing else?

  28. to alice: yes iran people does nose surgery now but just to shave down their big “jewish”-like nose. it’s like having a big breast, and then you make it smaller. or u r fat, and then you make yourself slimmer. usually the iran nosejob involve removing the hump and shaving the beaky hook nose. (think mr. bean’s nose-in fact, he’s reported to be iranian. or the tennis agassi’s nose)

unlike koreans who don’t have bridge and nose bone to begin with, and then insert plastics and change the whole shape and look of the nose to make it caucasian.

iranian noses are already caucasian to begin with. theirs are like italians noses whom themselves are european. so their nosejobs are more like correcting rather than changing or making a whole new nose altogether.

  29. DA,M MAN!!!
Its just like how Taiwanese people are getting so much damn plastic surgery nowadays!!

Taiwan is like second beating korea! Amazing!!!!!!!!!

  30. wow!!!! overflowing insecurities!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  31. oh my gosh………..
i knew that there are korean artists who did
plastic surgery but i did not expect this, there are lots of them
and i am very disappointed because lots of them are my idols
and i really owe them for having their beauties
but the true is they’re fake!!! gosh……… BU
its still ok s still love them hehe!!!! HWAITING all of you……….

  32. adakah yang mengetahui dimana operasi plastic yang bagus dan terkenal di korea?

  33. Plastic Surgery is a common thing in Korea… They change their appearance almost like They change their hairstyle… ^^~

IMHO, They are celebrity! celebrities are supposed to be amazing, beautiful, cute, and so on, so their fans will always worship them…

I think they did it for that reason ==a

    • RIGHT! and also because of comparisson to other actresses or artist that’s ewhy they wanted to look better…

  34. I USED TO IDOL THEM

THESE PEOPLE I USED TO IDOL THEM AS BEAUTY AND TALENTS. WHICH I BROUGHT A BUNCH OF THEIR MOVIES. TURN OUT THEY HAVE PLASTIC. I IDOL THE MEN OF SOUTH KOREAN MOVIES TURN OUT THEY ALL ARE PLASTIC. MY DREAM TURN TO NIGHTMARES. I WANT MY MONEY BACK FROM THE MOVIES CD I BROUGHT.

  35. I think it’s fine to undergo plastic surgery as long as you have a somewhat healthy relationship with yourself before hand.

Realistically speaking, it’s not the ultimate solution. However, I don’t believe it’s that bad. Everyone wants to change something about ourselves – weight, eyes, anything. People work out furiously, fast, get lipo. Others get cosmetic surgery.

I think the only damage I felt was that I grew up really looking to these stars for their beauty. They were my Barbies. I spent hours looking at magazines and pictures of these stars wondering why I couldn’t look like that naturally. I deeply envied them.

And now I find out that it’s mostly false. It brings me relief and a good laugh. But at the same time, it makes me feel almost like all those years pining for that face or those huge eyes were for nothing. I was beating myself up for no reason.

That’s the only negative thing personally I could come up with.

Otherwise, I’m fine. In fact, I support plastic surgery. Do it if you want to.
Two of my friends did. One of them has been called Frog Face her entire life because of her fat upper eyelid and small eyes. She got surgery before going to college, and even though she doesn’t look like a celebrity, she looks much happier, much more confident.

That’s what I want for people who get the surgery. Happiness.

    That’s all that matters, really.

  36. all korean&japanese and taiwan artis plastic sugery face…only half natural beauty

  37. American, Australian, and UK actresses/actors/singers/celebrities also undergo plastic surgery (nose reduction, tummy tucks, eyelid lifts, breast enlargement, cheek implants). It’s not ingrained in Korean/Japanese culture, just show-biz.

  38. Hello everyone,

My name is MeeMee. I come from Thailand. I really interested in plastic surgery in Korea , but have no info. about the famouse doctors. Therefore, I came to post msg. here, hopefully will get some useful info/suggestions from all of my lovely friends ^^ . It would be great if you kind to inform me via email. My email address is >> slk200k@windowslive.com

WATING FOR ALL OF YOUR REPLIESss..

    MeeMee :)

    • ummm…im sure that u already look pretty and dosen’t need plastic surgery…^ _ ^…everyone girl is pretty becoz God made us…and the outside appearance dosen’t really matter.

    • im sorry for just one mistake on my reply…i meant every girl is pretty not everyone girl is pretty…hehe…sorry^ _ ^

  39. normally people with real natural beauty not really care to show as people not as lucky as beauty always wish and want show the world more than you can imagine.its can i say revenge and satisfaction.

  40. yeah it’s true, not only asian celebrities undergo this plastic surgery thingy…it’s just something that happens in show-biz…im just really happy for those who are not afraid to show the face that God gave them…^ _ ^

  41. I don’t have anything against people who have had plastic surgery. I mean, who doesn’t wanna look good, ne? (And personally, I’m considering liposuction…) But yes, I am also of the opinion that it doesn’t solve everything and sooner or later, we’ll just have to accept that no matter how many surgeries you go through, it will always boil down to what’s inside. :)

  42. THERE IS NO SUCH THING – once you become pretty guys down on their knees for you only. GET REAL ! for guys who are drawn by your plastic beauty next second at next corner another beauty loitering with her high heels and mini skirt there are so many out there in the big cities South Korea, Tokyo, Shanghai,Beijing,Taiwan,Hong Kong, Thailand, oh. and American, German, French, Italian….. you not possibly win over all of your sisters.

be strong and be yourself , GIRL POWER !

  43. ALOT of these before and after pictures are false.
Keep in mind that some of the before pictures are taken at a very bad angle and is not photoshopped. Some after-photos are photoshopped + the celebrities have makeup on.

  44. From Indonesia

    hello Guys,,im Someone From indonesia..
Can i know how much plastic surgery in korea..??
Can i know the deatil about it..??
    pls Reply my comment..
    Thx

  45. oh my GOD… iT is shocking me..

  46. If someone says one more time that they still look the same, but they grew up, I’m going to scream. Who cares if they had plastic surgery! At least, admit they had something done.

  47. those are some eye opening surgeries lol

  48. I am Korean and I am ashamed that Korean society places such emphasis on outward appearance. Sure every modernized society is the same, but not the extent of Korea. Ask 20 non-Korean female friends if they’ve had plastic surgery performed on them and then poll 20 Korean women. Women have died undergoing jaw surgery in Korea. Like with many industries in Korea, there is no government regulation, so quacks abountd. Risking your life just to look like someone else. How pathetic.

People make look handsome or pretty on the outside, but on the inside they are a complete mess. No amount of surgery can bolster the fragile egos of these desperate people and celebrities.

It makes me sick to think people have to go to such lengths to be considered ‘desirable’ or at least ‘not ugly’. Thank God I don’t live there anymore. The North American ideal of ‘keeping it real’ is an utterly alien concept to Koreans.

I guess though in a way it is encouraging to ugly girls in Korea in knowing that with some good plastic surgery and the right connections (or whoring themselves on the casting couch), they too can become the next one hit wonder.

Many non-Koreans tell me how beautiful Korean women are. I tell them not to be fooled as most of it is fake. Koreans have Mongol blood in them, which means high cheek bones, heavy jaws and fairly flat, wide noses. What are you wowing over is an illusion. For me, Han Chae Young looks like the fakest of the fake and just looking at her make me nauseous.

When I lived in Korea, I cannot tell you how many girls I met who literally thought they could become the next ‘big model’ or ‘celebrity’ simply because they had some plastic surgery done which bumped them from being average looking, to incredible looking (in their eyes, NOT MINE).

These ‘egg shell egoed’ girls have their moment of fame, but it all comes crashing down on them when they realize they cannot cope with the pressures and the inevitable decline in popularity or the merciless criticism by the Korean media/public/netizens. You cannot get away from people in Korea. They cannot deal with reality so they sadly feel suicide is their only way out.

  49. By the way…the first photo of the slideshow up top…sorry, but I don’t see much of an improvement, like going from a F to a D. I know it’s mean but that is my honest opinion.

These girls need positive role models to build their self-esteem, NOT the fake, plastic Lee Hyoris of the world.

Mind you though, Korean schoolgirls pretty much are not permitted to wear makeup, so once they hit university, they do look totally different just from the makeup alone.

I have also met quite a few Korean girls who were pretty, but messed up their face with surgery, just so they would like everyone else. Very disappointing.

  50. some/most of the people nowadays only think about materials..
they’ll do anything to buy anything..and they think that they can buy beauty…
    it’s pity because..
the meaning of beauty from time to time may change…
and there is nothing beautiful with fake perfection..

  51. Now 65 % Korean women after 18 did plastic surgery especially make eyes double lushes..

And there is big problems of failure surgery victims.
It is treated in BBC News etc..also..

  52. Now 65 % Korean women after 18 did plastic surgery especially make eyes double-fold eyelids..
And there is big problems of failure surgery victims.
It is treated in BBC News etc..also..

  53. I really interested in plastic surgery in South Korea , but don’t know where/who the famous surgeon is. hopefully i will get some useful info :) or where korean/ chinese actress go to get them done?

    thank you

  54. Oh GOD….pity behind awesome face..

  55. so,they are not really beautiful actually…
I’m a fan of Kim Tae Hee and I felt so disappointed when I saw her ‘original’ face in the slide…

  56. i think that plastic surgeries are becoming a routine procedure for very rich people ~

  57. hi
i want look like uhm jung hwa. so if you want see my picture than you sent your email address to my email. so i will sent my picture

  58. also i want to khow how much money need for it?

  59. i’m not against it.. i’m not surprised anymore because it’s common nowadays in korea…

that’s their life..and it’s their decission.. as long as their talent is great and their skills are good.. hahahaha

    i just hope they won’t regret it…

  60. hellooo, i do like korean songs n drama s since last year… In only 1 year i d tried to catched up arround 25 dramas. Yeahh i watch thm all but i hv a problems to recognize their faces n names. Almost look the same…especially their noses. But i still like to watch it anyway ..

  61. you know some of them are just because of make up and weight loss or even aging from childhood to adutlhood right? Don’t post up pictures that may not necessarily be true. Most of them are true, but some of them aren’t.

  62. :3 Asian eye shape + make it larger + double eyelid look = SMEXY!

  63. It’s a shame that they all get double eyelid surgery. I’ve always liked Asian eyes, I thikn it’s a particularity that makes them look special. They should be proud of it instead of trying to look less Asian.

  64. Disappointed! i already noticed about their plastic surgery earlier but everytime i saw their face before and after plastic surgery i feel proud of myself. although i don’t have pretty face like them and always being jealousy becoz of their beauty but at least i have my own face. ASIA FACE. NATURAL WITHOUT PLASTIC! Sometimes, their face be4 plastic surgery more beautiful and fresh. But I do understand that everyone have desire to be beautiful and handsome. No need to feel shamed about it.

  65. We dont ve any rights to comment on wat they ve done … its their money , its their skin and its their wish…… lets not bother and waste our time ….. its no use of commenting on that… it wont affect any thing ,…. just a wastage of time and energy .

Peace to all ^___^ chapter close !!

  66. Hmmmmmm I Like ,,, sukses Gan,,,,

  67. yumille’s the worst surgery done – eyelids,lips,cheekbones and nose T_T

  68. South Korean had been the hub of cosmetic surgery industry in Asia. Every year the number of people having cosmetic surgery is increasing and the number continues to escalate as people slowly accepted the idea of having cosmetic surgery to enhance one look and boost self esteem.

See before and after photos here, http://www.advancecosmetic.com/eng/surgical/rhinoplasty

  69. .know what, i really admire korean actresses… their faces are just amazingly good that i often wish i was like them.. but when i learned they are plastics, i just laughed out of disappointment…urggh! i wish they were natural! really!

  70. It’s amazing how you have explained plastic surgery to the patients, it’ll be lot easier for them to understand how easy these things are and I think they will agree to be good looking is lot more easier than previous days. I’m recommending this post on my facebook page for sure, thanks a lot.
